(b). Sanitary Inspectors' Office, and shed
for dust-carts, &c Wantsai District, $15,000. The
Sanitary District Office at Wantsai which is housed in a
rented building has to be constantly moved from one place
to another because the Chinese dislike living in its
vicinity, and the landlords therefore give the Government
notice to quit. A permanent office and shed will obviate
this inconvenience, and conduce to greater efficiency.

(c). Old Western Market, Reconstruction
A reference to Sir Henry Blake's Despatch No.
474 of the 26th. of October, 1900, will show that in
accordance with scheme No. 2 in Mr. Ormsby's report of the
29th. of May, 1900, it was decided to build a new Western
Market on a site in front of the old Harbour Office; to
reserve the site of the latter building for a second
Market; and to pull down the then existing Western Market,
which is still standing and in use, and to devote the site
of it to a public improvement and to sell the land after
that improvement had been made.
Further experience has demonstrated the
fact that the demand for market accommodation in the
populous district in which the market is situated is by
